Concepts
  • LOCAL UNIT:  An enterprise or part thereof (e.g. a workshop, factory, warehouse, office, mine or depot) situated in a geographically identified place. At or from this place economic activity is carried out for which ' save for certain exceptions ' one or more persons work (even if only part-time) for one and the same enterprise.
  • REFERENCE PERIOD:  Period to which the information refers and which may be a specific day or a time interval (month, fiscal year, calendar year, among others).
  • PRACTICED CAPACITY:  Indicator that corresponds to the number of beds (including neonatology and pediatric cots) available and equipped for the immediate admission of patients to a healthcare establishment.
  • HEALTH ESTABLISHMENT:  Establishment where health care is provided, under technical and administrative direction, in facilities that are assigned to it.
  • RESIDENT POPULATION:  The persons who regardless of the fact that at the moment of observation ' 0:00 a.m. of the reference day ' are present or absent in a given housing unit, this unit being where they live during most of the year with their family, or where they have all or most of their belongings.
Definition The number of beds in hospitals and in primary health centres corresponds to the practiced capacity in the reference year, that is, it results from the arithmetic average of the number of beds in hospitals and in primary health centres counted on the last day of each quarter of the reference year.
